What is llms.txt, and do you need one?

By Manish, SEO & GEO Lead at DigiVino · Updated June 27, 2026 · 3 min read

llms.txt is a simple text file that tells AI systems what your site is about and which content matters most — a friendly map for the crawlers now shaping who gets cited.

What does it do?

Think of it as a companion to robots.txt, but aimed at AI: a concise, plain-text summary of your business and links to your most important, answer-ready pages. It won't replace good content or schema, but it helps AI find and trust the right pages faster.

Should a small business bother?

It's low-effort and forward-looking, so yes — set one up alongside clean schema and answer-first content. The fundamentals still do the heavy lifting; this just removes friction.
